Easy to set up and so quiet you can’t hear it running. I’m not seeing any evidence of an internal LAN device but I just got it the other day so maybe I missed something. So far, so good. I wasn’t going to go with Vista but like everything else these days, there’s no other choice. I’ll just have to learn to live with it.

My Acer AX1700-U3793A failed after two months. It has been to the Acer repair center under warranty 3 times, and it’s still broken. Their call-support-center is not only an overseas call-center, but a BAD overseas call-center. Expect to be on the phone at least an hour or more, if they don’t hang up on you first. Their repair facility has the worst shipping department I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with. The computer always came back to me more broken than when I sent it in. For the 6 months I have owned this computer, it’s only been functional for less than 3.

THEIR POWER SUPPLIES DIE, EVEN WITH A SURGE PROTECTOR!!!

I was using the desktop, checking email, when the cursor slowed down and stopped working. Then, the image on the screen began to dim, and within a few minutes, the tower shut off, never to restart again.

We tried everything possible to bring it back to life, but nothing worked. There were no lights inside or out. We brought it to a computer store, and it was confirmed that the actual power supply had died (barely 11 months old), and all of my data (including emails stored in Mozilla Thunderbird), documents, etc. covering the last 6 years, are all trapped in the hard drive, which is completely inaccessible when there is no functioning power supply.

Their computer desktops, especially the Acer Aspire X1700, are defective (check out the Internet Forums/wish I had), and their /technical support/customer service people (all of their 1-800 numbers lead to the same people in India) always tell you the same thing: “You can pay to ship the tower to us. We will try to diagnose the problem (I already know the problem/taken it to computer places/the power supply just died, even with a surge protector). We may have to reformat your computer (that means that they ERASE every bit of data on it permanently), but hopefully, that won’t be necessary. If we can fix the problem, we will do that and send it back to you around 10-14 days later. Otherwise, we will return it to you unfixed.”

They will not simply send the right replacement part, none are available without having to buy them from a computer place online (if you can figure out which is right/Acer’s parts are apparently unusual and uncommon/”Proprietary”?/still may not even fit properly), and then hope that it will be installed correctly by a computer savvy friend/expensive computer repair place.

Still not sure how to proceed…

Please…AVOID ACER AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!! Otherwise, ALL of the COSTS will be paid by YOU, not Acer.
