I installed and tested the USB adapter on a Lenovo ThinkPad running Windows XP SP3. There is a possible conflict between the Novatel software and this OS platform (perhaps Lenovo’s Access Connections connection manager but this is speculation). Eventually the system will become non-responsive: e.g. click-to-run Firefox and the Firefox process runs but stalls with no GUI. It is necessary to restart the system to return to an operative state. I did lengthen the interval between these system stalls by setting the “NovaCore SDK Service” to Manual and starting it only when I want to run the 3G connection. Then, after closing the connection, I stop the service. Too bad this workaround doesn’t seem to eliminate the conflict completely.

I also tried the USB adapter on a Lenovo N200 running Windows 7. On this platform, the solution runs smoothly and I haven’t noticed any conflicts.

The Sprint 3G signal at my location is strong and the data transfer is quite speedy. We are lucky that Sprint (via their Virgin Mobile brand) is marketing this no-contract broadband service since there are hardly any no-contract alternatives with Sprint’s coverage. Last year’s data pricing was $60 for 1GB/30-days but when I noticed they changed it to $60 for 5GB/30-days, that made the sale.

This Device Works Great – NO DOUBT.

Just purchased this device a few days ago and I have already put it in a very strenuous Test program as follows:

    1) Drive from San Francisco to San Diego, CA and it on;y dropped signal Once in the rugged mountainous area.

    2) a 5-Hour continuous High Definition Live Streaming TV & Audio broadcasting via USTREAM.TV in Huntingon Beach area with 3G signals at about 2 – 3 bars with NO Drop Signals or any HicUps

Convenience: NO CONTRACT, HASSLE FREE. NO headaches with a 2-year contract, NO Bad Credit if you Quit early.

I need to provide a Live Broadcast Streaming TV/Audio event in Southern California and came home

Without any worries about Over Usage and Out-of-this-World cell phone bill.

Portable: YES, only as small as an USB Flash drive

Economical: Not Exactly, $100 for the device and the Megabytes are Additional, can be expensive if you have

a lot of Downloads or Uploads.

Usage: I can’t Hardly Tell. It would consume about 2MB for every time you log onto their network?

The Streaming Video/Audio upload takes about 400MB per hour. I purchased a 5G plan for $60 and

still have more than half of the Megabytes remaining after about 5-hour of continuous video

streaming. People from around the World who are watching the Show really liked the full

    video/audio quality programming.

I’ve done some research and Learned a lot on [...] before decided to buy this device. I am Glad I’ve made the decision because it DID WORK and Served the Purpose. I recommend this device to anyone who may like to Try-It before Buy-It first. It will work on all computers and operating systems.

I use this device on my laptop at home. It does work, and the data plans are reasonable. However, there are connection problems as often as 2-3 times a week. And it’s slower than cable – but faster than DSL. I am getting 3 bars of reception. I looked at reception boosters but most every booster on Amazon lists “…. except Nextel”, which means no booster for me. Could be much better – but my data plan is “pay as you go”, which I like a lot. I’m not locked down. Well, but I am, because I dropped $99 on this USB accessory …

This device is a very fast (Sprint Network) and economical way to get onto the mobile internet without having to get locked into an expensive contract. Make sure you check your account each month that you use it though. I caught them skimming MB off my account. When I contacted them on it, they gave me a $10 credit to cover what they had taken from me, but made no apologies for it occurring. If you opt for this type of service, I strongly recommend that you add your usage history to your “remaining MB” a few times a month to ensure you are getting what you pay for. The month I caught them, I had used 138 MB in my history and they showed me having 98 remaining for a total of 236 vice the 300 I had paid for. It took three e-mails, and over an hour on the phone with a “technician” to get a $10 credit out of them to make up for it. Not the sort of thing that would happen with Verizon or another first tier carrier.
