The Product is Great. Dont Buy from Amazon. I bought the product 5 days ago and paid 39 dollars and the price dropped today to 34 and Amazon won’t match their own price!!??!!

I am a previous owner of Parallels 3.0, but I wanted to run some of the new games that Parallels 3.0 didn’t support. So I purchased VMware 2.0 about a month ago, not knowing when the new version of Parallels would be available. Ugh! Needless to say, I should definitely have waited. I found VMware 2.0 to be buggy beyond belief and actually slower than the Parallels 3.0 I had installed at my office. Worse yet, it was confusing to use and yielded unexpected results at every turn – things that you would never see running Windows on a PC. A complete waste of money!

Now I’ve got Parallels 4.0, and I love it. It’s faster than most PCs running Windows and screams by comparison to its predecessor. And, most importantly, it works beautifully with the games I’ve been waiting to use.

Not sure how many other people have tried both VMware and Parallels and had this same experience, but I thought my experience might be useful to people considering VMware.

I used VMWare based on these reviews in my dermatology clinic for 3 months before switching to Parallels. This is on a brand new Powerbook and using Windows XP. We use an on-line EMR, Windows-based, and I would always have these wierd ghost images when the cursor would move over tabs…it wouldn’t quit the program without control-alt-delete…and if I’d click on a tab the subsequent box wouldn’t have all the fields visible and it took several clicks and reloads to try and get them to come up so that I could enter notes, etc.

I uninstalled it and installed Parallels last night and today NONE of those things is happening. And the program (CollaborateMD) loads MUCH quicker and more smoothly.

I’m a real user…not a paid spokesperson like these reviews you read here…I no longer trust those.

Runs too slowly and has too many issues so far. I will try to tweak it more than I have (presently should have enough ram and disk space). Anyone have any hints how to speed it up?

I am not a tech oriented person. I’m just a regular guy that does basic things on his computer. Trying to use this to take everything off my existing pc, thru an ethernet cable connect, and have it run virtually on my new Mac. I didn’t want to pay for Windows XP again. I would have tried using my original backup disc with this and Boot Camp, but my disc doesn’t have SP2 on it. Maybe at some point I might get the whole mess to work, but so far, I hate it. If I get it going, I might be back later to give a better update and review. If you try this, don’t take everything apart on your old computer like I did. You have to use it to download and set up the VM Converter on it first, THEN somehow transfer everything over to your Mac, and hopefully get it running over there. Not fun.

Seeing as you can never know who is writing a fake review either for or against something, take that for what little it’s worth.

8-1-09: Bought a 16GB flash drive to download the converted pc to. VM Converter stalls at 2% done, and I don’t know why. Tried calling Smith Micro phone support, and unfortunately for me, I need help when their offices are closed. Tried calling Sandisk, and that was the same. Not sure what to do. I like the new Mac, but hating VM and this whole experience. Not sure if Parallels is any better.

8-3-09: Over the weekend, I was able to get VM Converter program to work. I had to let Converter put my converted pc into a folder on my pc desktop. It took a long time, but when it was done, I went to MY COMPUTER, opened the list of drives, and dragged that converted pc file into the USB drive on the F drive. Used Fusion on the MAC and the 16GB drive file to get the virtual pc going. In order to get the virtual pc to work on this Mac without the USB drive plugged in, I had to copy EVERYTHING (except the vmx file, or something like that) of the converted pc into the folder created by Fusion called Contents. My advice, before you even start, use your pc to watch the online tutorials offered by VM that instruct you on the whole process. Watch them several times. Take notes if your memory isn’t excellent. Haven’t been trying it out long, but now that it is all done, it seems to be working well enough. I might buy more RAM though. What can I say, but Good Luck.
