I have been an HP person since ’94.THe units were good and the service was OK. This was for desktops, which are still good – BUT. I have purchased 4 laptops in the last three years and all 3 HP’s are not running. The one in 07 died in a day or 2. Returned it. The one last year, the screen died and can’t get them to replace it, or fix it even though it is warranty according the the flunky e-mail support team. I bought another a week ago and was dead on delivery. The laptop I have still running is an old IBM. This is for my home use. At work I buy MAC laptops. The Dell laptops we bought years ago, some are still running even being 6-7 years old and swapping parts to fix others. I just bought 8 HP desktops and all are good. I would recommend a DELL or a Toshiba if you need a laptop and it needs to be a PC; but do not know how well their replacement is because they outlasted warranties unlike HP-Compoop laptops. Get a MAC laptop if you can afford it, and don’t have programs that require a PC.

I found this laptop on sale at Office Depot on 15 August 2009 with a base price of $[...] minus $[...] instant rebate minus $[...] by mail. Final price of $[...] is a pretty good deal for this machine. This is my first Compaq/HP laptop, so I can’t speak to longevity but after a week so far, so good. A couple of observations:
* Like most laptops (at least on the budget end) there is a fair amount of bloatware that should be removed for best performance and to free disk space.
* This is my first laptop that features a numeric keypad, very convenient!
* I haven’t used the LiteScribe drive, but was surprised to find it on this value priced machine.
Performance is as expected with 2gb of RAM and a 2.2 ghz processor. Very adequate for web, MS Office and typical functions. Runs EVE Online satisfactorily.

I got this laptop as a birthday/graduation gift from my parents and I LOVE it. I can play games such as The Sims 2 with no problems whatsoever. My only complaint would be the battery which only lasts about two hours. Otherwise it is a wonderful computer.

We bought 2 of these computers for my daughters who are in college and high school. We have a home network that we have 4 other computers set up on, and at this point, 2 weeks later, still can’t get these to keep an internet connection. Have spent hours on the phone with HP help… who apparently can’t help us get online either. We both work with computers for a living, and have had 4 or 5 computers all networked together through our MAC timecapsule, and have never had an issue of any kind. I was trying to save money, and get a good deal, but I ended up spending money we didn’t have, on computers that don’t work. If I had to do it over, would spend the extra money and get a MAC. This was a terrible purchase.
